Justin.TV Upgrades Chat With Enhanced Twitter Features
Justin.TV, a leading video chat/show social networking site, announced some new features and upgrades to their service.
First, they upgraded the process of signing into Twitter even more secure utilizing Twitter’s latest and greatest authentication system. This appears to have made the Twitter chat much more reliable, fluent, and easier to use.
Second, they added a pretty handy new Twitter feature for broadcasters. You can now set a hashtag (#whateveryouwant) for your broadcast channel. Anytime a chatter is using Twitter chat and has opted-in to update their status, your hashtag will be added to the tweet. This will make it easier to follow and connect with fellow Justin.tv users on Twitter as well as make it possible for your broadcast to trend on Twitter.
Safety experts and politicians alike are scratching their heads wondering if they are giving a mixed message to their constituents. At least 22 states that ban texting while driving also offer motorist information services via Twitter. Those information services provide locations of road emergencies, traffic congestion reports, and more.
On September 7, there was a flurry of blog posts and reports that the popular Facebook Fan Check application supposedly spreads a malware through the Facebook accounts. The application will tell you who your top Facebook friends are based on an algorithm as to how engaged they are with you.
As we reported last Friday, the Twitter-like feature of using the @ symbol to include people in your messages on Facebook is now LIVE! The feature doesn’t just include usernames, but also allows you to add Facebook pages, events, groups and more.
Sarah Marshall down in Louisiana has come up with a little treat for the ladies of Twitter. She is the creative brains behind #HunkAlert. Ladies can nominate their favorite hunks they come across on Twitter. The more nominations a hunk gets the higher his ranking to ultimately gain a Top 5 ranking or even a Hunk of the Year? (Yes guys there is a #BabeAlert as well, but we are talking to the ladies in this article.)
As you can tell from several of my Tweets, I’m getting very tired of spammers on Twitter. Then again, when you have over 37,000 followers what should I expect. Did I really think that I would have 37,000 real, interactive followers? That’s why some of us with large Twitter accounts have an alternate personal account which is much smaller. Even with a smaller account for personal use, how do you keep the spammers out and only allow real people who want to truly interact with you?
This afternoon Twitter changed the format of their follower pages as well as the URL’s for those pages. Because no one else has reported on these changes – including Twitter themselves – we can only make a few obvious assumptions based on previous news reports as to why they made these moves.
To promote his latest book, “Shootin’ the Sh*t With Kevin Smith” and 15-city tour, Kevin Smith has announced plans to conduct an uninterrupted 24 hour online Q&A on Twitter this Labor Day (Monday, September 7th). And to top it off, there is a press release to let everyone know about the publicity stunt Kevin is pulling. Check out this quote directly from his press release:
T-Mobile announced yesterday that older Sidekick models can now access Facebook through a free to download application. There are currently over 65,000 Sidekick users already using the Facebook app on the newer models, but that number should increase after making the app compatible across legacy Sidekick devices.
Tweetups are get togethers between people who use twitter. In the past, it’s been quite difficult to find tweetups with like minded individuals let alone a get together in your area. Sure there are sites such as Evite and Facebook, but the tweetups get lost in all of the other social events.
The NFL announced today that it will allow players to use social media networks with on stipulation – that it’s not during games. All football personnel from the players, coaches, and the water boy can use Facebook, Twitter, and everything in between up to 90 minutes before the start of the game and then after the media interviews following a game. In other words, when all the news of the game is old news.
After spending the last two days creating this new blog site as part of Rockland USA’s redirection of efforts I spent a few hours looking over the site. I wanted to experiment with new ways of creating interaction of each blog article and display those numbers on the site. It has been my experience with celebrity blogging that people on Twitter would comment on the article as a tweet, but not comment on the WordPress site itself. That was frustrating until today when I discovered a relatively new plug-in called
One of my Sunday morning Twitter rituals is to unfollow all those who have decided to unfollow me. I am one of the few that subscribe to the reciprocation theory of Twitter – if you follow me I will follow you in return or visa versa. However, many people seem to take advantage of this just to get you to follow in return only to unfollow you later once they got your follow. On this particular morning I have over 2,000 to unfollow. Did you follow that?
