Media Bias: Major Problems Upgrading To iOS 4 Go Unreported
Many Apple loyals were eager to get their hands on the latest operating system release iOS 4. The ugprade is free to those with 3G and 3GS phones as well as new generations of the iPod Touch. Though, to many, problems have left thousands with limited functionality, lost files, and in some cases expensive paperweights!
Why haven’t you heard about this in the news? Because many a reporter use Apple products and are so loyal that they will rarely ever report on anything negative regarding Apple. The same is not the case when it comes to Apple rivals Google, Microsoft, and others.
You may be asking yourself how would we know if iPhone users are running into these issues. It’s very easy if you look around in the forums on Apple.com. [Apple Forums Related Topics]
As reported by many users in the Apple and Google forums, there are problems with some phones not coming back to life after the update (basically rendering them DOA), hanging during the update, not transferring files for those who use Google’s apps, etc. Google has responded to some of the complaints & said that they expected a fix for any problems created by their software very shortly. At the time of writing this, there was no response to the problem from Apple.
While this has greatly angered many iPhone users, both those who unsuccessfully went through the upgrade and those who have held back from the upgrade from fear of destroying their device, there is hope. There is absolutely no way Apple can let this major catastrophe continue. While there’s no patches or further instructions as of yet, they will come, they have to.
iPhone 3G users seem to have been hit the hardest, so if you own a 3G model, it may be safer for you to wait until a fix has been announced before upgrading. For those using Exchange to manage email accounts, it’s reported that a manual backup before and manual restore after the upgrade will ensure you don’t suffer data loss.
Our advice? If you have a 3G model it would be wise to wait to upgrade or consider ordering the new iPhone 4.
Monitor the Apple.com forums and wait for an official response from Apple. It is obvious you cannot rely on the media to report patches or corrections to the upgrade process … they are in bed with Steve Jobs.
