Verizon’s Droid Gets Android 2.1 Update Tomorrow!

You’ve heard the rumors for weeks – now we can report that Verizon has officially announced the specifics on the Verizon Droid over the air update to Android 2.1!

From what we have heard this afternoon is that the update will be performed over-the-air on Thursday, March 18! With the update the Droid will be given the most current version of the Android mobile operating system. Droid users will enjoy many of the same features that the Google Nexus One owners currently boast about.

Multi-touch is finally here. Users will be able to pinch and zoom in the web browser, photo gallery and Google Maps to name a few. The Weather and News widgets which were a huge hit on the Nexus One will be included. Users will also be able to do voice-to-text entry meaning you can opt to voice enter all text instead of typing. There will be a new 3D Gallery layout for photos. And finally, one feature that no one would have ever guessed is the addition of live wallpapers to the Droid!

Look for the operating system update notice to appear on your phone sometime in the next day or so.
