Easy Ways To Extend The Reach Of Your Blog

With the new year a number of new blogs are created partly as a result of a resolution. New bloggers put a number of hours into their site only to be frustrated by the lack of readership and/or traffic. Your blog may start out as a great passion, but that can quickly drain if you don’t get some sort of recognition through comments, tweets, Facebook re-posts, or just the sheer number of visitor numbers.

There are a few very simple things that a new blogger can do to increase the reach of their blog and gain exposure for a potential new audience:

  1. Use a free service like AddtoAny.com to give your readers different ways to subscribe to your RSS feed. Remember, not every visitor uses Google Reader. Be flexible to meet the needs of your visitors.
  2. Add your RSS feed to multiple feed directories. You can also ‘claim’ your directory on Technocrati.com which will rank your blog with some of the other big dogs in the business.
  3. If you have a Facebook profile, you can setup your account to read in your RSS feed into your Facebook wall, thus giving additional exposure of your blog to your friends … and their friends … and so on. Hootsuite.com is a great tool for getting your blog into your Twitter feed.
  4. Create lifestream and social accounts to help promote your blog articles. Use services like FriendFeed or Squidoo. Be creative as to how you promote your blog as so you are not spamming the communities.
  5. Signup for Feedburner.com and read the helpful tutorials on the site. There are many strategies to using Feedburner.

By using the leverage of your current social networking account and posting your blog on listing sites, you will notice an immediate bump in your blog stats.
