13,000 Mexicans Break ‘Thriller’ Record

logo-youtubeJust so you guys don’t think we are a bunch of boring geeks sitting around playing with our tweets all day, we’d like to bring you something that happened Saturday that is quite simply amazing (in it’s own unique way). It appears that almost 13,000 Mexicans gathered in Mexico City to break the world record for … [insert drum roll] the largest number of people dancing to Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ at once.

Google Voice’s 15 Minutes of Connect

Google Voice’s 15 Minutes of Connect

logo-googlevoiceI’ve been a huge promoter of Google Voice since it’s become available during the beta run. Promoting so much that if I see someone with a BlackBerry or T-Mobile G-1 Android phone I ask them if they have Google Voice yet.

I have noticed a downside to the service only to find out that it hasn’t been my carrier’s fault (T-Mobile), it’s been the Google Voice service itself. There has been a tendency for calls over the beta app to get cut off if the connection is longer than 15 minutes. I’ve been shrugging it off to a possible cell tower issue and just reconnect with whom I was speaking to. Turns out I haven’t been the only one.

Catch Tweets As Blog Comments

Catch Tweets As Blog Comments

chatcatcherAfter spending the last two days creating this new blog site as part of Rockland USA’s redirection of efforts I spent a few hours looking over the site. I wanted to experiment with new ways of creating interaction of each blog article and display those numbers on the site. It has been my experience with celebrity blogging that people on Twitter would comment on the article as a tweet, but not comment on the WordPress site itself. That was frustrating until today when I discovered a relatively new plug-in called Chat Catcher.

Mass Follow and Unfollow Twitter Users

Mass Follow and Unfollow Twitter Users

logo-buzzomOne of my Sunday morning Twitter rituals is to unfollow all those who have decided to unfollow me. I am one of the few that subscribe to the reciprocation theory of Twitter – if you follow me I will follow you in return or visa versa. However, many people seem to take advantage of this just to get you to follow in return only to unfollow you later once they got your follow. On this particular morning I have over 2,000 to unfollow. Did you follow that?

One of my followers from Amsterdam (@Jankovitch) caught my tweet regarding my mass unfollowing work and asked me what I used to accomplish this. Because my follower/following numbers are 32,000+ and growing by several thousand a week, I cannot use many of the established services. One I can still use is TWITin.

Microsofts New 250GB Xbox Bundle?

logo-xboxWith not even a week having passed since Microsoft confirmed an Xbox 360 price cut and their intention to phase down their 360 models to just the Arcade and Elite, could they already be planning to introduce a new 360 model with even more hard drive space? According to listings from Amazon Germany and South African retailer BT Games, that may be a yes.

YouTube Opens Adshare To Everyone

YouTube Opens Adshare To Everyone

logo-youtubeIt’s hard to believe that a company like YouTube can’t make a profit. Google purchased YouTube for $1.65 billion just three years ago. Sure the site is the dominant player in video and user generated content, but when will this translate to profits for the investors?

YouTube’s latest move is an announcement this week that it has expanded its revenue sharing program. Based on a variety of factors such as number of views, compliance with the Terms Of Service, YouTube will give a percentage of ad revenue generated from a given video. This program was originally only for large operators.

Facebook & Twitter Can Get You Robbed

Facebook & Twitter Can Get You Robbed

fb-twitterIt’s no secret that I have thousands of ‘friends’, ‘followers’, and ‘stalkers’ on the various social networking sites. Sure, many I do not know that well (or at all for that matter), but I do take the time to read as many updates from my net friends as time permits.

What I find amazingly shocking is the updates that many post in full public view. Over this past summer I have seen a slew of vacation updates, road trip reports, and so forth. The first thought that comes into my seedy little head is that their house is completely unoccupied and they are telling me the coast is clear for theft! Why not put a big neon sign in front of your house telling passerbys that you’re not home so they can take that beautiful 60″ plasma flat screen from your theater room.
